Part 8 文段朗读背诵

1.

I no longer have patience for certain things, not because I’ve become arrogant, but simply because I reached a point in my life where I do not want to waste ore time with what displeases me or hurts me. I have no patience for cynicism, excessive criticism and demands of any nature. I lost the will to please those who do not like me, to love those who do not love me and to smile at those who do not want to smile at me. Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should. And let go of what you can't change. Kiss slowly, play hard, forgive quickly, take chances and have no regrets. Life's too short to be anything but happy.

Always believe that something wonderful is going to happen, even with all the ups and downs. Never take a day for granted. Smile. Cherish the little things and don't forget to hug the ones you love.

You'll never see the great things ahead of you if you keep looking at the bad things behind you. You are exactly where you need to be to reach your goals. Everything you've been through was preparation for where you are right now and where you can be tomorrow.

Take control of your destiny. Believe in yourself. Ignore those who try to discourage you. Avoid negative sources, people, places, things and habits. Choose to let each of your experiences today be a gateway to an even brighter tomorrow.

Not all relationships are meant to last forever. Some people come into our lives to teach us an important and sometimes painful life lessons, and then they leave. It's up to us how we use this experience and what we gain from it.

I do not care what they think. They can hate me, judge me, talk behind my back... Well, one thing they can never do is get me to change. I am who I am, and the way I act, think, imagine, dream, dress, speak, love, look, and feel will always remain the same. You need to see that life is not always perfect. We'll not always get what we want. And though it hurts a lot, what should've happened, happened. Who should've left, left. It won't change anything if you keep beating yourself up.

pollution. President Obama has established the first comprehensive National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, our Coasts, and the Great Lakes. The National Ocean Policy helps us prioritize our efforts and resources to address the most critical issues facing our oceans and establishes a comprehensive, collaborative, regionally based planning process to ensure healthy ocean and coastal resources for the many communities and economies that rely on and enjoy them.

10. Technology can be a powerful tool when it comes to teaching and learning. To help

realize its potential, in September 2011 the Department of Education and private foundations launched Digital Promise, a new national center for advancing learning technologies. Digital Promise will harness the efforts of everyone from educators to entrepreneurs to spur the research, development, and adoption of breakthrough technologies that can help transform the way teachers teach and students learn. Learn more here.

11. To better support the preparation and development of

successful teachers, the Department has also proposed setting aside 25 percent of Title II funds under No Child Left Behind (roughly $600 million) to improve teacher and leader recruitment, preparation, and professional development. The set-‐aside would support programs that recruit talented candidates into the teaching profession and provide them with rigorous training to prepare them for high-‐need schools. It would also support programs that recruit and train principals and school leadership teams to turn around the lowest performing schools.

12. The giant panda has an insatiable appetite for bamboo. A typical animal eats half the

day—a full 12 out of every 24 hours—and relieves itself dozens of times a day. It takes 28 pounds (12.5 kilograms) of bamboo to satisfy a giant panda's daily dietary needs, and it hungrily plucks the stalks with elongated wrist bones that function rather like thumbs. Pandas will sometimes eat birds or rodents as well.

13. Even so, analysts expect India to make voluntary pledges to boost energy efficiency

and renewable power. It's well on its way toward meeting a pledge, made at UN climate talks in Copenhagen in 2009, to cut the \"intensity\" of its carbon emissions—reducing the amount of carbon emitted for the same amount of economic output 20 to 25 percent over 2005 levels by 2020.

14. The Administration is taking comprehensive action to ensure the integrity of the

waters Americans rely on every day for drinking, swimming, and fishing, and that support farming, recreation, tourism and economic growth. We have issued draft Federal guidance to clarify which waters are protected by the Clean Water Act nationwide; launched innovative partnerships and programs to improve water

quality and water efficiency; and created initiatives to revitalize communities and economies by restoring rivers and critical watersheds.

15. Love seemed to be front and center for all the would-‐be parents we met, and I’m

certain that emotion is prominent for the vast majority of prospective parents who anxiously await the birth of a child.

16. The news frequently reports on stories where very loving parents unwittingly leave

their child under the supervision of an abusive caregiver or nanny. There are also incidents where a loving parent bathing a child leaves the baby unattended for a moment to return to the tub where the little one is totally submerged. Every single parent is human and prone to mistakes—-‐sometimes those mistakes trump love.

17. Beyond providing a safe physical environment to ensure the child’s health and

security, parents must also focus on each other and invest in each other to ensure a healthy, secure relational foundation for their offspring.

18. There are plenty of well-‐intended parents who claim to love their

children but who give their kids everything they want because they want their little ones to be “happy.” Or parents who let their kids do or eat whatever they want for the same faulty reason—-‐all in the name of love. But that’s not love; it’s lousy decision making in the short term by the parents that will ultimately hurt their child in the long term.

19. Raising well-‐adjusted kids requires parents to be present and

available when the kids need them – not the other way around. Unfortunately, work requirements force many parents into loving their children from afar, while providing the kids with substitute creature comforts and surrogate caregivers. That may be a necessary reality for some families and situations, but there’s frankly no substitute for hands-‐on parenting.

20. Consider the type of relationship a parent develops with a child and the example set

in regards to problem solving. If a parent frequently punishes a child, a relationship built on fear is established. If a parent is aggressive and unpredictable, the child will become fearful and worry about what his parent will to do every time he makes a mistake. Moreover, this fear and anxiety stays with the child later in life. He may be waiting to be hurt and for something bad to happen.

21. If you’ve never spent much time around kids, then you probably

wouldn’t know that they’re born with the most blissfully perfect posture and maintain that posture until something changes it. Often times it’s environmental, like too much time in front of a screen or as the case often is with girls, they physically shrink when their self-‐confidence takes its first real blow.

22. Maintaining a clean home and spending time with the children who live in it is a

struggle most parents face. There will always be clothes to iron and dishes to wash, but also fleeting moments of childhood passing by, and never enough time in the day to accomplish everything on your to-‐do list.

23. Many people around the country have been as shocked by the

decision not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who put Garner in a chokehold, as they were when the cell phone video of it went viral. The outrage has weighed especially heavy after the police shooting of 18-‐year-‐old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. When the grand jury in St. Louis

County announced it would not indict Officer Darren Wilson in Brown's death, protests dotted the American map. Likewise in the Garner case.

24. Burger King Worldwide Inc. (BKW) is putting its Yumbo ham-‐and-‐cheese

sandwich back on the menu after a 40-‐year hiatus, aiming to entice customers with a taste from its past. The Yumbo, which debuted in 1968 and was officially retired in 1974, will cost $3.69 and be available for a limited time, the Miami-‐based company said today in a statement. It also will be part of Burger King's two-‐for-‐$5 menu.

25. Research has shown, not only are early risers more optimistic and conscientious, they

also anticipate problems and minimize them more efficiently. Which of course is crucial to success in the business world.

26. Time is a luxury, enjoy it and feed yourself a wholesome breakfast. Sit down with your

family and enjoy a hearty bowl of oatmeal. Fuel your body for the tasks that lay ahead of you. It will help you maintain a steady focus throughout the day.

27. Waking up early offers you opportunities that few get to enjoy – watch the sunrise,

hear the sound of birds chirping, and just be still. We are always on the move. Sit and enjoy the morning calm. It’s a brief time where you can be alone with your thoughts. Just breathe.

28. If you’re looking for the perfect on-‐the-‐go snack, almonds might just be it.

Several recent studies have found that snacking on them helps you stay satiated throughout the day, and eat less at meals. A small handful is the ideal

portion size (about 1 ounce, or 22 almonds)—for 160 calories, you get a healthy dose of monounsaturated fat, 3 grams of fiber, and 6 grams of protein. Bonus: they’re loaded with vitamin E, which is essential for healthy hair, skin, and nails.

29. Beijing’s municipal government has warned users of the world’s largest subway

system that fare increases could more than double the cost of an average commute. The Chinese capital’s 17 subway lines carry almost 10m passengers a day – twice the number of New York’s – for a flat fee of just Rmb2 ($0.33) per trip regardless of distance.

30. One in five women in asset management has suffered sexual harassment at work,

according to a survey of 730 fund industry staff, which shows that sexism continues to plague the market. The global survey of both men and women found that another third of female asset management staff had experienced sexist behavior at work on a weekly or monthly basis and that 15 per cent had felt under pressure to exploit their sexuality at work.
