you have just heard.
26. When do we need to build a positive self-image according to the passage 【解析】选[C]。 If…believing in yourself is a challenge…build a positive self-image可确定答案为[C]。believe in意为
different from the images others hold about us. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.
The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don’t allow doubts to occur in it.
It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy some new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true.
The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image. When you can pat yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way. Good

One of New York’s most beautiful and valuable buildings is in danger — the New York Public Library, in the heart of the city at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue, may have to close its doors.
The library is a very special place. Even though it is in the busiest part of the city, it has grass and trees around it, and benches for people to sit on. The library has over thirty million books and paintings. It owns one of the first copies of a Shakespeare play, a Bible printed by Gutenberg in the 15th century, and a letter written by Columbus in which he tells of finding the new world.
Every New Yorker can see and use the library’s riches free. But the cost of running the library has risen rapidly in recent years, and the

City

library does not have enough money to continue its work. In the past, it was open every evening and also on Saturdays and Sundays. Now it is closed at those times to save money.
The library is trying every possible way to raise more money to meet its increasing costs. Well-known New York writers and artists are trying to help. So are the universities, whose students use the library, and the governments of Now York City and New York States. But the problem remains serious.
Yet a way must be found to save the library because, as one writer said, “The Public Library is the most important building in New York City — it contains all our knowledge.”
[D]。
28. Which is the reason of the crisis of the Public Library
But the cost of running the library has risen rapidly.,

Passage Two
In ancient times the most important Questions 30 to 32 are based on the passage examinations were spoken, not written. In the schools of ancient Greece and Rome, testing usually consisted of saying poetry aloud or giving speeches.
you have just heard.
30. How did students in Middle Ages take a test
In the European universities of the Middle Ages, students who were working for advanced degrees had to discuss questions in their field of study with people who had made a special study of the subject. This custom exists today as part of the process of testing candidates for the doctor’s degree.
Generally, however, modern examinations are written. The written examination, where all students are tested on the same questions, was probably not known until the nineteenth century. Perhaps it came into existence with the great increase in population and the development of modern industry. A room full of candidates for a state examination, timed exactly by electric clocks and carefully watched over by managers, resembles a group of workers at an automobile factory. Certainly, during examinations teachers and students are expected to act as machines.
One type of test is sometimes called an objective test. It is intended to deal with facts, not personal opinions. To make up an objective test the teacher writes a series of questions, each of which has only one correct answer.
【解析】选[D]。古希腊、罗马学校的学生考试包括saying poetry aloud or giving speeches, 而中世纪欧洲大学生要discuss questions in their field of study with people who had made a special study of the subject, 故答案为[D]。
31. What might be the reason for the application of written examination
【解析】选[A]。 短文中提到it came into existence with the great increase in population and the development of modern industry, 即随着人口增长和现代工业的发展, 笔试便产生了, 故答案为[A]。
【点睛】[A]中的more candidates than before是对短文中的the great increase population的同义转述。
32. What can we learn from the passage 【解析】选[C]。 It (objective test) is intended to deal with facts, not personal opinions, [A]表述错误, 故排除。随后指出客观考试中the teacher writes a series of questions, each of which has only one correct answer, 由此可知答案为[C]。[B]和[D]是关于written state examination的内容。
Passage Three
Almost every child is scared of something, from Questions 33 to 35 are based on the passage monsters in the cupboard to dogs in the park. But the fact that such fears and phobias are common and normal doesn’t mean they can be taken lightly. Kids experience fears much more strongly than adults. And the influence of the fear can be physical as well as psychological. It can build up so they almost seem scared of everything — a kind of childhood anxiety. Dr. Creswell says, “Your child may always seem to expect the worst to happen and lack confidence in his or her ability to deal with any challenge.” So don’t make the same old mistake of treating them as if they’re silly for being a “scary cat”. Handing the fears is essential.
Children can be born nervous and, if you have such a baby, you’ll tend to prevent them from getting worried. So if they fear dogs, you’ll keep them away from dogs, but in fact that can just confirm to the child that dogs are scary. What is worse, keeping your child away from what they fear can turn that feeling into a phobia. Instead, you should encourage them to get in touch with the thing they fear, in a safe and supportive environment. Dr. Andy Field, a researcher of childhood fears, says, “You shouldn’t force, for
you have just heard.
33. Why are children’s fears usually taken lightly
But the fact that such fears and phobias are common and normal,

34. What will happen if we fail to help children to overcome fears
Your child may always seem to expect the worst to happen and lack confidence in his or her ability to deal with any challenge, 由此可知, 答案为[D]。
35. What should parents do if a child is afraid of a dog according to Dr. Andy Field
example, a dog-anxious child to go up to a dog. But you can approach it yourself, show them there is nothing to be afraid of, stroke it, and talk about the dog being friendly. Once your child dares to stroke a dog — one that’s good with children, of course — then you should encourage them to carry on until they feel calmer, and reward them for being brave.”
短文中提到, you can approach it yourself, show them there is nothing to be afraid of, stroke it, and talk about the dog being friendly., 由此可知答案为[C]。

43.financially。as well as表示其前后是并列关系, 所填词在动名词短语affecting many people【解析】之后, 应为一副词, 修饰affecting。 Divorce and loss of a close friend or relative的消写。

you have just heard.
26. Why is there no more hunting in India now
tiger-shooting, to protect those animals which still
survive.
Some people say that Man is a natural hunter. I disagree with this view. Surely our earliest forefathers, who at first possessed no weapons, spent their time digging for roots, and were no doubt themselves often hunted by meat-eating animals.
I believe the main reason why the modern hunter kills is that he thinks people will admire his courage in overpowering dangerous animals. Of course, there are some who truly believe that the killing is not really the important thing, and that the chief pleasure lies in the joy of the hunt and the beauties of the wild countryside. There are also those for whom hunting in fact offers a chance to prove themselves and to risk death by design; these men go out after dangerous animals like tigers, even if they say they only do it to rid the countryside of a threat. I can respect reasons like these, but they are clearly different from the need to strengthen your high opinion of yourself.
The greatest big-game hunters expressed in their writings something of these finer motives. One of them wrote “You must properly respect what you are after and shoot it cleanly and on the animal’s own territory. You must fix forever in your mind all the wonders of that particular day. It is better than letting him grow a few years older to be attacked and wounded by his own son and
The days of the hunter are almost over in India., 接着给出两方面原因:partly because there is practically nothing left to kill, and partly because some steps have been taken, [D]表述的是其中一个原因, 故为答案。
27. What is the main purpose of modern hunters’ killing
短文中提到people will admire his courage in overpowering dangerous animals, 即现代人猎杀动物的原因是通过征服危险的动物得到人们的赞赏, 故答案为[B]。
【点睛】短文中…that he thinks people will admire his courage是表语从句。
28. What do we learn about the big-game hunters
【解析】选[A]。
eventually eaten, half-alive, by other animals. Hunting is not a cruel and senseless killing — not if you respect the thing you kill, not if you kill to enrich your memories, not if you kill to feed your people.”
I can understand such beliefs, and can compare these hunters with those who hunted lions with spears and bravely caught them by the tail. But this is very different from many tiger-shoots I have seen, in which modern weapons were used. The so-called hunters fired from tall trees or from the backs of trained elephants. Such methods made tigers seem no more dangerous than rabbits.
理解。
29. What is the speaker’s view on the tiger-shoots he has seen

Passage Two
Diet, diet, diet! It gets to be a constant battle Questions 30 to 32 are based on the passage for many of us to stay fit and healthy. But diets don’t always allow us to learn new eating habits, improve our self-image, or make lifestyle changes. Developing good eating habits and proper exercise is a permanent issue. And it’s the main topic of this workshop.
In order to keep a healthy diet and minimize the risk of disease, it’s essential to eat a diet that consists of low-fat foods and to maximize energy
you have just heard.
30. According to the speaker, which will burn most quickly with exercise
由短文中的… potatoes, and bread contain almost no fat… source of complex carbohydrates和carbohydrates are the first calories to burn可知,属于碳水化合物的
with carbohydrates. Beef, nuts, oils, and most dairy products are rich in fat, so you should eat less of those; while pastry, rice, potatoes, and bread contain almost no fat and are a high-energy source of complex carbohydrates. You know that many food manufactures use sugar to make low-fat or fat-free foods taste good, but don’t worry too much about that. You don’t necessarily “get fat” by eating sugar, since sugar is an indirect fat.
When you exercise, carbohydrates are the first calories to burn. If you want to burn off fat, it’s good to do some sort of aerobic exercise such as biking, swimming, running, or fast walking. But you have to keep doing this exercise for at least twenty minutes because it takes about that long before we start to burn fat. And then the effect of burning fat decreases after 45 minutes of exercise. So if you do some sort of aerobic exercise for three to four days a week for about thirty to forty minutes, you’ll have an affective schedule for reducing weight.
31. What does the speaker say is burned at the beginning of exercise
【解析】选[A]。 When you exercise, carbohydrates are the first calories to burn可知,碳水化合物燃烧最早,故答案为[A]。
32. According to the speaker, what is the most effective exercise time schedule for reducing weight
由短文中提到的for three to four days a week for about thirty to forty minutes … But… doing this exercise for at least twenty minutes… 以及 45 minutes of exercise,注意这两处的时间段并不是问题中的the most effective exercise time schedule,短文最后提到的内容才是本题答案出处。
Passage Three
【听前预测】选项中dive, water turns gray, Life on earth improves表明, 短文可能与地球上的水环境有关。

us by thousands of kilograms of water. The early Greeks sailed the oceans. They wrote about the seas. But since they could not dive deep into the waters, they could not lay bare these secrets and so the secrets remained. But today we have more ways to study the sea than did the early Greeks. Scientists are learning about life in the sea, and how it may improve life on land. The study of sea plants and sea animals may help us learn new ways of getting food. Scientists are searching the ocean floor for oil and gas, to keep our world running smoothly. And they are also learning how not to pollute the oceans. For if the sea dies, so does life on earth. The sea may even become our home some day. People are studying ways to build cities on the ocean, and make more room to live in an overcrowded world.
Modern study was done, at first, by divers. But it was too dangerous for divers to keep diving and coming to the surface. So now, laboratories on the ocean floor are the homes for divers for months on end. Divers can work outside in the water and return to the laboratory to eat and sleep.
Little by little, we are solving the mysteries of the deep. Little by little, the sea is showing us how we can live a better life on land.

I wish Mary would put on a different record以及男士的附和It used to be one of my favorites可推断, 他们听够Mary的歌了, 感到厌烦了, 选项中与此一致的是[D], 故为答案。
【听前预测】由选项中的concepts of engineering,high school students,explain,gives talks等可推断,
M: I’m speaking to a group of high school
students
about
engineering
this
afternoon. But I have no idea how I’m going to simplify some of the concepts for them.
Q: What can be inferred about the man
Now you will hear the two long conversations.
Conversation One
W: Dr. Smith. I need to ask you about something Questions 19 to 22 are based on the
in Chapter 12. Well, it talks about erosion and the deposit of sediment(solid matter that settles at the bottom of a liquid)on the deep sea floor, but I’m confused. For that to happen, there would have to be some kind of force down there moving the mud or sand or whatever, right But I thought there weren’t any waves or currents that deep in the ocean. M: That’s not exactly correct. It’s true that deep
down on the ocean floor we won’t have the same kinds of currents we find in shallower parts. But we do find what we call turbidity currents. That wasn’t in the book but the term came up in class. Do you remember what it means
W: Um, turbidity currents Oh, yeah! Isn’t that
conversation you have just heard. 19. What is the main topic of the discussion 【解析】选[B]。
20. What does the professor ask the student to explain
【解析】选[A]。 Do you remember
when sediment like sand or mud gets stirred up and mixes with water And then this mixture flows through the water around it, right M: Good!
W: Uh, but I thought that only happened in rivers. M: Well, yes. This does occur in rivers, but we see
turbidity currents deep in the ocean as well. W: But how do they get started there
M: Earthquakes mostly. When an earthquake
occurs under water, it throws up tremendous amounts of mud or sand that becomes suspended in a layer of water near the bottom of the ocean. This layer is so much denser and heavier than other ocean water that it flows right down the slopes of the ocean floor and gains more and more speed as it moves along. Then it’s just like the winds blowing across the desert picking up sand from one place and moving it along and finally dropping it somewhere else.
what it means,可见教授希望学生能解释turbidity current,故答案为[A]。
[A] What a turbidity current is对应对【点睛】
话中的what it means,其中it即turbidity currents。
21. According to the professor, how do earthquakes cause turbidity currents 【解析】选[B]。 对话中教授提到,earthquake…throws up…mud or sand that becomes suspended in…water,由此可知地震带动泥沙运动,最后与海水混合,故答案为[B]。
22. Why does the professor mention desert winds
【解析】选[A]。 Then it’s just like the winds blowing across the desert可知,答案为[A]。

W: I’m fascinated with them. I often read the Questions 23 to 25 are based on the
stories about their lives and their hobbies. M: Why should we care about celebrities When
they were born, they were no different than any of us. Just because they have a camera on them doesn’t mean that they have to be ideal citizens.
W: I think many celebrities have fascinating stories, and to read these stories can be very inspirational. They forever inspire us to achieve more.
M: So you hold celebrities as your role models W: Yes. But celebrities definitely should consider
how their behavior will be seen by those who have chosen them as a role model.
M: But don’t you think celebrities also make us
spend money I mean we have to follow their lavish lifestyles.
W: Although I may be fascinated with celebrities’
lifestyles, I stop short of imitating them. M: I think it’s all right to have a normal interest in actors and artists we’re fond of, but if you know more about Britney Spears than your next-door neighbor, you need help.
W: I think too that the most important people in
our lives should be our friends and family. But celebrities do keep us entertained whether it is sports, music or movies.
M: The entertainment value cannot be

【点睛】but if you know more about Britney Spears than your next-door neighbor, you need help. But don’t you think celebrities also make us spend money 是[C]项的设题处。When they were born, they were no different than any of us是[D]项的设题处。
25. What do the man and the woman agree most on
But celebrities do keep us entertained,男士说The
