Durability is essential in a manual microtome and theLeica RM2235 can stand up to the workload requirementsof even the busiest laboratories. The enhanced precisionof the new accessories will add convenience to block toknife approach as well as specimen orientation.

The new Leica RM2235 manual microtome providesunique user-friendliness, achieved through numerous newfeatures, most of them patented, which have never beforebeen offered in this class of microtome. sSafety during sectioning

Safety is ensured by the integrated,red finger protection guard of theknife holder E that uniquely shieldsthe blade edge. When used correctlythe integrated finger protection guardrules out potential injuries becauseit can even remain on the blade edgeduring sectioning.

sConvenient storage area

An integrated storage tray* ensuresthat ancillary tools are on hand at alltimes. Alternatively a cooling plate withthermo element can be used for coldstorage of specimen blocks either ontop or on either side of the microtome.

sFatigue-free operation

Ergonomics and user comfort wereprime considerations for the locationof the coarse feed wheel, which ispositioned close to the operator.The direction of the handwheel rota-tion to best suit your sectioning stylecan be specified at the time an orderis placed. The mechanical trimmingfunction, conveniently placed nextto the coarse feed wheel, eliminatesthe need to turn the coarsefeedwheel during trimming.

sSpacious, magnetized section waste trayThe spacious section waste trayreliably collects sectioning debris.It is safely held in position bymagnets, yet is easily removable foremptying and cleaning.* not supplied with basic instrument

For applications where specimen orientation is notneeded, a non-orienting fixture for specimen clampsis available as an optional accessory. The SuperMega cassette can clamp specimens up to a size of46 x 66 x 10 mm (W x H x D).

sErgonomics and user safety

The smooth-running safety handwheelhas an ergonomically shaped handle.A handwheel locking device for one-thumb operation locks the specimenhead in the uppermost position, whichis ideal for changing the specimenand/or blade. A second locking mecha-nism on the microtome base allowsthe object head to be locked in anyposition.

sPrecision specimen orientation withclear zero reference point

This novel orientation mechanism sets new standardsof precision and is very easy to operate. Calibratedcontrols make it easy to adjust a specimen to an exactzero position indicated by red pins or a measurablevariable on the x/y axis for re-cuts.

sLateral knife holder adjustment

The entire width of the microtome blade can be usedwithout having to release the blade clamping mecha-nism. Using the entire knife edge is cost effective, espe-cially in laboratories with high specimen throughput.Three predefined stop positions (left, center, right)correspondto the width of a standard histology cassette.sA special accessory:

Chilled universal cassette clamp (UCC)

The UCC is kept cold by placing ice cubes or dry ice ina special compartment, which ensures that specimenblocks remain at cold temperatures throughout theentire sectioning process.

sThe patented force balancingsystem

The RM2235 handwheel runs excep-tionally smoothly because it has nobalancing weight. Instead, the pa-tented force balancing system usesa spring to compensate the forcesgenerated during sectioning. Theresult: effortless operation and uni-form handwheel rotation – producingmuch better sectioning results.
